You’re invited!
‘Amadeus’ meets ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ in this exciting new musical.
The costumes are opulent period. The language is TikTok.
The singers’ voices fleet deftly in between operatic flourishes and Billie Eilish whisper-pop.
CHASING ICARUS sits in the world of modernised-history musicals (in the vein of Hamilton, Six and Bridgerton) with a quirky, artsy soul (à la Hadestown).
It's a topical, urgent story with a sweeping emotional landscape and exciting commercial/cult potential.
WHAT'S THE SHOW ABOUT?
Meet history’s first singing superstars: castrati.
Rome, 1700. For the last hundred years, as per the Pope’s decree, women have not been allowed to sing in public. But audiences crave angelic soprano voices.
This leads to a fashion for turning young boys into super-singers: castrati.
A third gender. Neither men nor women. But adored by both.
WHY NOW?
Everyone is aware of the conversation on gender happening, whether they are part of the trans community or not.
CHASING ICARUS is on the cutting edge of this conversation – and wonderfully entertaining at the same time.
It resurrects a moment in history where gender was thought-of much more fluidly.
Its queer themes are overt. And the story is universal.
Plus it’s told through an eclectic contemporary score. Baroque harpsichords meets high-concept electronic pop, in the vein of Imogen Heap and Bjork.
